ok i try to download the update but it does not let me install it. the last one works great but this says something about the add on dont match what firefox expected.
Everything should be functioning properly now.
I wonder how many ppl’s first reaction coming here is something like “Firefox 2.7? I’m on 9.something… Where is THAT version?” Guess you’ve heard that 1000 times before, but why not make it “Ghostery 2.7 for Firefox”? Saves one or the other misunderstanding.
Besides, thanks so much for this nice little helper for all us non-FB-users, who still believe in privacy and are ever so reluctant to adjust to those post-privacy-theorems. Keep it up!
Very good point. Title changed!
Hi,
Do you also have any indication of when the detected memory leak will be fixed ?
(I’m talking about https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=718375)
Thanks !
We started the fix in our latest release (2.7) and are shooting for a fix in the next couple of iterations. We’re monitoring the Bugzilla thread, too!
Why did I get an update message for Ghostery that took me to a page in which the latest shown version is older than the v 2.7 that I already have installed?
I already posted, but it hasn’t shown up yet, that I just had this same thing happen in Firefox using Xubuntu Linux 11.10. It’s a brand new install.
Now, I just had it happen twice in SRWare Iron using Linux Xubuntu 11.10 on that same brand new installation!
I don’t know if the FF dev. versions are supported or not, but I guess reporting a bug won’t cause harm.
The Ghostery 2.7 Options menu seems blank (more correctly, texts are missing), on FireFox 12.0a1 (2012-01-23) Nightly x64.

And an idea, there should be a button, something similar to this: “block the new elements of the list by default”
Felix is releasing 2.7.1 in a few moments with a fix! Thanks for the heads up.
Nope,
Not fixed yet as it JUST happened to me! Brand new Lunux Xubuntu 11.10 install.
Otherwise,
Great tool although doesn’t work for squat in Windows XP with IE8.
Dear you,
Thanks for a great product !

PLEASE allow me an option box. I hate that toteboard popping up and blocking my view for every page I surf to. I don’t care what you’re blocking, just do your job! If I have a problem I can click on the icon and see what needs to be unblocked.
It would also be able to choose where I wanted the icon to appear, rather than having it in both the navigation and add-on bars.
You can remove Ghosty from either of the toolbars in the browser’s settings, and you can turn off the purple bubble in Ghostery’s options, just click on the aforementioned Ghosty
In Firefox, it worked better with previous version. There’s always this issue with Disqus comments. The only way to make it work was to stop one of ghostery daemons (stop malwares I think), now these options changed and we can only “Pause blocking” but it doesn’t run reliably (re-enabling itself at next reload) and can’t allow Disqus comments anyway. Please work these regressions. Why changing for the worst these 2 disabling options when they just worked?
great addon, but i need to now, how to disable or display, the count of elements blocked in a web site, that is display in the status bar.
thanks
I was very concerned about privacy and security online but have recently found this great app! Thumbs up for developers, usability, simple video tutorial and great effort!
I have only one question: is there any “import/export list” option for backup/restore selected sites. It will be very useful in case of reinstalling brownser or just sharing the same list between different ones?
Thnx a lot, keep up the good work! ;o)
This command doesn’t work!
Sorry, updating failed. Please try again later.

How can I delete this from my computer. I looked in my firefox tools and ghost is not there, then I went into my program and he’s not there either. He’s very annoying to me. Your ideas are good, but I’m tired of seeing the pop-up at every page I go to, it very un-nerving. Not only do I get the pop up, but I get a message about my yahoo toolbar, which I will not delete…so, Mr. Ghost has got to go.
Hi Donna,
Can you email me with your browser type? Then, I can give you specific instructions. adam at ghostery dot com.
I just posted my message at March 6th at 8:10pm, why is my posting dated March 7th at 2:08 a.m. Are you in a different country than the USA?
We don’t exist in real life, we live on the internet.
3 days ago on the last update, Mafia Wars would not allow any other scripts to work, in order to play the game I had to remove Ghostery as much as I hated to, I couldn’t play the game. Once removed the problem went away. This only occurred using FireFox, Chrome is still working fine. I hope that there will be a fix for this as I hate not having your app.
Hi Linda,
There is a fix built into Ghostery’s options: You can whitelist the site upon which you are playing Mafia Wars, and everything should work just dandy.
Does this help?
Adam
Just seen the facebook social graph listed and not blocked by ghostery
Thank you for this fantastic software. You have done great things for the community
Some previous versions of Ghostery would allow you to automatically block any new trackers that get added to the database. It’s tedious having to manually go into options and add the new trackers to the block list for every browser, every few days. Am I missing a setting or something that would take care of this?
Does Ghostery disable blocking on some sites when it updates? Just now after updating to the new version I went in for curiosity and found quite a lot of sites had blocking turned, and they were sites I’ve never heard of. So I just blocked everything. But with the automatic updating of the 3pe, will that end up turning off some of my blocking? Or will some blocking get turned off again if I update the extension next time there’s release?
Hi,
Thanks for using Ghostery. You need to turn “Block new trackers by default” on in your options!
A
That option seems to be gone in newer versions (3.0.0). Will it appear again some day?
Am using FF 9.01 and have downloaded Ghostery 3 times but it won’t install. It says it will install when FF is restarted but it is NOT installed when FF restarts. What is wrong? Are we supposed to enable Javascripting or something?
I am using Ghostery 2.7.2 on Firefox 110. I can no longer manually block trackers, nor will Ghostery save my option update. When I went in to options and checked the blocks to block all trackers, advertising, analytics, and privacy, even though I hit save, it has no effect on Ghostery. Suggestions?
Hmmm can you email pete (at) ghostery (dot) com with this information, as well as a list of the other browsers you have installed?
I can’t update Ghostery in Firefox 3.6.28 or Firefox 10.0.3 ESR. When I click on Tools, Ghostery, Manage Ghostery Options and then Update now under Auto Update, it says Updating… and then Failed! (in red). I’ve tried this several times over the past couple of days.
Hi,
This should be fixed! Thanks.
Two things I would like to see Ghostery be able to block: Facebook and Twitter. I keep getting the Facebook blue button on several websites I visit regularly (Readers Digest Canada for one), and it gets in the way of the webpage’s contents. Now Twitter is imposing a windowpane on Giveaway of the Day’s webpage every time I open it. I don’t know if these are trackers or not, but they are a colossal nuisance to me, as I don’t subscribe to either social network.
Hi Robert,
Our new Ghostery 2.8 for Firefox gives you the option to block social buttons. Ghostery gives you the option to always block the buttons or just during your browsing session.
Thanks for the feedback!
Ghostery is one of the first addons I install whenever I have to use a new installation of Firefox, next to AdBlock Plus and Greasemonkey. It’s fast, easy to handle and reliable as hell. However there’s one improvement I’d like to suggest:
The option to automatically block new items by default shouldn’t be hiding in the advanced options, but rather just under the tickbox “enable library auto-update”. I don’t know a single user who wants auto-updates but no auto-blocking – there’s just nothing there justifying this option to be “advanced”.
Got it. Never Mind.
