Greetings Firefox Users!

We are happy to announce an update for the Firefox browser. AND… over 1400 trackers in our blocking library!

A big Thanks to all of our users who helped us identify and fix a few production issues. As well as some house-keeping items.

Here are the release notes for 2.9.5:

- Removed the alert for the old menu since we will be keeping it.

- Added upgrade check for library updates: replaces only if the embedded bugsVersion is higher than the current.

- Fixed a memory leak that slowly ate up Firefox memory.

- Fixed reporting issue for redirects occurring on the sub-frame level.

- Fixed script hanging when data:image uri were encountered.

Go grab the newest version from the Firefox extensions library if you don’t already have it.

Support tip: Some users are experiencing a disappearing act by the Ghostery icon upon Firefox upgrade.

View > Toolbars > Customize << you can drag Ghostery back into your navigation bar here and you should be all set!

In our on going efforts to make Ghostery more secure, we have made a few updates. Take a look what we did!

- Switched GhostRank to HTTPS for better privacy/security.

- Disabled page-level GhostRank on trackerless pages.

- Updated bundled tracker and surrogate libraries.

So go grab the new version from the Chrome extension gallery if you don’t already have it.

We have an updated version of Ghostery for Internet Explorer that has…wait for it… Internet Explorer 10 support! You can download it HERE!

We really appreciate all of our Ghostery for IE user’s feedback and support while we got this version ready for you all.

New Features:

- Windows 7 + IE 10 and Windows 8 + IE 10 support

…And we fixed a few things as well:

- We fixed Walkthrough not loading issues after installation

- Improved UI performance

- Several performance and bug fixes

New! Ghostery v2.9.4 for Firefox

Greetings to our Ghostery for Firefox Users!

In our ongoing effort to make Ghostery more secure we now transfer Ghostrank data via HTTPS. We also fixed a few minor things. See the full version update below.

- Corrected query string removal for tracker detection within content policy. This should fix video issue on Bloomberg + any other instances of Ooyala player.

- Added frame results reset. This caused a memory leak over extended periods of time.

- GhostRank page analysis is now only sent if there is at least one bug on the page.

- GhostRank query string for trackers is not removed anymore, just the carrier page/frame.

- GhostRank caching updated: all trackers are submitted for the page until there is a navigation event.

We can’t thank you enough for all the feedback you provide us!

In our on-going effort to make Ghostery more secure we have made a few updates as well as fixed a few issues.

Here is what we did:

- Switched GhostRank to HTTPS for better privacy/security.

- Added workaround for Ghostery’s findings getting reset on some websites.

- Fixed tracker library updating and options pages not closing properly in Opera 11.

- Updated bundled tracker and surrogate libraries.

Why reddit wins at advertising.

Yesterday, reddit admin jenakalif announced that the company has partnered with AdZerk, an advertising and tracking company based out of North Carolina.

That’s why reddit wins.

They announced to their users that they were changing the way they do advertising and they asked for their feedback. reddit recognizes that the most important part of their site is the people that use it. Their transparent approach to advertising and tracking encourages trust and will ultimately grow their userbase. Ghostery users who would normally block AdZerk on reddit are already speaking up and whitelisting reddit.com because they feel like they are getting a fair deal in exchange for their data. In the end, more ads are shown to more people, reddit grows, and everyone is happy.

Good stuff.
